The decision to make a European
train reservation before leaving on your European
trip will depend upon the type of travel you will be
doing. In general, we recommend that you wait to
make your train reservations when you arrive in Europe or
Britain for the following reasons:
- Most trains do not require
reservations
- Reservation fees are lower in
Europe and Britain
- Plans may change and most
reservations are non-refundable
However, for certain types of trains,
reservations are either required or recommended.
These include the following:
- Sleeping accommodations on all
overnight trains.
- High Speed Trains (e.g. Eurostar,
TGV, TAV, Thalys)
- Long Distance and Express Trains
in Spain, Portugal, Scandinavia and Eastern
Europe
- Long Distance and Express Trains
during high season (Jul-Aug)

Reservation Guidelines
- All reservation holders
must be in possession of a valid rail
pass or point-to-point train ticket that
covers the routing of the train they
have reserved.
- Train reservation requests must
be submitted through our online request
form above or by our “Fax-in” form
that will be enclosed with your order.
- Reservations may only be
made within 60 days of the actual travel
date.
- It will be helpful to
research the train schedules before
making your request. The Thomas Cook
Timetable guide is a useful resource. We
also include timetables with all Eurail
Pass orders.
