Overview:
Leksand, Sweden - The old part of
Leksand nestles on the banks of the Dalälven River where it
flows out of Lake Siljan. From the magnificient 13th century
church you can see some of the delightful, picturesque villages
which are living reminders of the past with their clusters of
red wooden buildings.
There are about one hundred villages in the surrounding area.
Leksand is a town of living traditions - folk costumes,
painting, churchboat rowing and, of course, the midsummer
festivities centered around the maypole which you can see
standing in the centre of every village all year round.
