Overview:
Nafplion, Greece , is a lively,
beautifully sited place. Since the 1980s the town has
increasingly served as a popular year-round weekend retreat.
It is the most attractive base for exploring the Argolid and
resting for a while by the sea. Arguably
one of Greece's loveliest ports, Navplion is also the doorway to
one of antiquity's most powerful city-states: Mycenae. Here
Agamemnon, conqueror of Troy, ruled over a city with massive
walls, majestic gates, and marvelous tombs, once filled with
golden treasure. The site, even partially restored, is awesome. Navplion
is a good base from which to vist Mycenae.
