Overview:
Today la Plagne, still faithful to its roots, has preserved its
immense alpine meadows where the herds of Beaufort cows come to
graze in the summer. This is lucky for Savoyard gastronomy, as
its these very cows that produce the delicious Beaufort
d’alpage cheese. Of its heritage, only the lead and silver
mine has gone. First discovered by the Romans, a little before
our time, it continued operation until 1973.
